The Menopause Method
The Body Always Tells the Truth
Welcome to a brand-new series on The Menopause Method all about biofeedback in menopause: How to listen to your body’s truth instead of chasing what worked years ago.
In this episode, I share the raw story of my hysterectomy and how ignoring my body’s signals became the turning point that showed me why biofeedback matters in midlife. Together, we’ll explore how the 4 bodies, physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual, all give feedback you can learn to read.
✨ What you’ll learn in this episode:
- What biofeedback really means in midlife
- Why your body is a barometer of truth
- How the unconscious mind speaks through your body
- The Awesome/Awful Test you can start today
- Why presence matters more than “doing more”
Because healthspan isn’t about how many years you live. It’s about adding life to those years by listening to the signals your body is giving you right now.

Have you ever heard the saying, may your head and your heart be where your feet are? I actually heard that saying this weekend at Woman camp. I went camping with 2400 women this weekend, and that was one of the prayers that we opened Friday night with. There was a time when I didn't fully understand what that meant until a season of my life forced me to. And honestly, I wish I'd learned that sooner because ignoring it cost me way more than I realized. I'll tell you that story in a minute. But first, welcome to a brand new series on biofeedback where we're going to unpack what it really means to listen to your body in midlife. Like, where do you even start? Because I remember going, I don't know where to start. We don't want to start with what worked decades ago, and we don't want to start with what someone else says is the answer, but at what your body is saying right now in real time. So welcome back to the Menopause Method Podcast. My name is Cam Allen, and this series is about learning and trusting to treat your body as the barometer it is of truth. Because here's the thing. What worked in the 30s probably doesn't work the same way it does now in your 50s. And believe me, that's not a failure. That's actually feedback. And feedback is the fastest way to change when you know how to listen. So that's what this episode's about. So let's back into that story I mentioned at the beginning. So I was 49 years old. I had gone to the gynecologist, and she mentioned, your uterus feels a little enlarged. I want you to go have an ultrasound. That's when I found out I had fibroids. I kind of knew that my belly was expanding. You know, I knew my energy was kind of off. I knew I just didn't feel like myself. But I also knew deep down that I wanted to keep my body parts. But the expert, the doctor I was referred to, said surgery was the only solution for fibroids. And honestly, I listened to her over my own instinct in my own body. So I had a complete hysterectomy and my uterus and my ovaries removed through a robotic surgery. And literally, I birthed myself into menopause. And that exact same week, I started classes to become a holistic health coach. So picture this. I'm in bed. Incisions are still fresh. I'm bloated from surgery. I'm recovering from surgery while learning about hormones, how my Body works how heals. I actually knew very, very little about midlife. I was living in the opposites, losing part of me while finding a deeper connection to myself. Like literally the same week. Healing on the outside while beginning to wake up on the inside. That was my first real lesson in biofeedback. My body was telling me the truth the whole time, like, don't do this thing. But I just wasn't present enough to listen. My feet were not on the ground, if you will. So let's look through biofeedback when we are starting to pay attention through our four bodies. When your head and your heart finally meet where your feet are in the physical body, that could be like bone deep fatigue that coffee just couldn't touch. I had that in my 40s. Maybe you're having night sweats soaking the sheets, or cravings that hit like clockwork every day at 3pm Those are not random annoyances. They're actually messages from your body. So try the osmoffel test. After a meal, after a workout, or even a night's sleep, pause and ask yourself, did that feel awesome or do I feel awful? That's real time feedback. Just ask yourself, was it awesome or awful? What does it look like in your emotional body? Have you ever snapped at your partner or burst into tears in the pantry over like something that was so silly? That's not a weakness. That's actually your unconscious mind which drives about 95% of your decisions speaking through your body. Those emotions are waving feedback flags. Hey lady, pay attention. I like to say our body whispers and then it talks a little louder before it screams. And when I look back on my hysterectomy story, totally. That totally happened. But I was clueless. I wasn't paying attention. I was just hitting go and following my checklist. Okay, so what does it look like in your mental body? Have you ever walked into a room and you forgot why? Or maybe you've read the same sentence three times and you still didn't go in. That fog isn't proof you're failing. It's actually feedback that you're overloaded your body. It's your body's way of pulling back into the present moment. Okay, what about your spiritual body? That restlessness, autopilot feeling like you're just going through the motions. Or maybe you asked yourself, what's the point? Like why am I even here? Like what am I doing? That's also feedback for me. I feel that when I. When I've gone too long, when I have been too busy, when I haven't spent time alone in prayer and meditation or in nature. That's when I know it's time to reconnect with myself. The moment I pause, breathe and connect, I remember that my life actually matters right here and right now. So here's why this matters. About 95% of our daily decisions are run unconsciously, which means your body, your cravings, your sleep patterns, your emotions, that is all the unconscious mind talking. And when you override those signals and you ignore the most reliable truth you have, you're missing something. Biofeedback is simply learning to notice how your body is talking to you. So I have an experiment for you this week. Be an experiment of one. Once a day I want you to pause and ask, what is my body saying right now? Run that osmoffle test. Did this choice move me towards feeling steady and alive and like, energized, or did it move me away from it? Like, I just want a box of crackers and a nap on the couch? Get still with it. Maybe write down your thoughts. Whatever bubbles up first. When you're in a calm mode, that is your unconscious mind talking to you. Maybe pray about it. By the end of the week, I hope that you'll see some patterns and those patterns will feel like your body is holding up a mirror to you. Now, this is just the beginning. Next week, we're going to look at sleep and why those 3am wake ups matter more than you think. I know that when you get your sleep on track, mood, energy, cravings, workouts, all of that also comes back online. In the next episode, we'll dig into energy and cravings and how sugar cravings really might be your body asking for something deeper or maybe something sweeter. And then in the third episode, we're going to explore stress and recovery. How do you know you're building resilience? And how do you know when you're burning yourself out? And then finally, we'll finish with digestion and mood. Because it's not just what you eat, but it's also the environment that you eat in that also changes everything. Each episode will end with a small experiment for the week so you can try it in real time. Because awareness without action doesn't really change much. But when you're present to your body's truth, everything begins to shift. So let me circle back. May your head and your heart be where your feet are. That is the essence of biofeedback. Noticing the present enough to notice what your body is already saying to you, and you're not outsourcing it. You're not pushing it off, giving your authority away to the experts, but you're actually tuning in and listening to what your body has to say. And if you'd like a way to practice through this movement, come join me on the Menopause minis.
