The Menopause Method
Why You’re Not Following Through (And It’s Not About Motivation)
If you’ve been beating yourself up for not following through...on workouts, healthy habits, or that to-do list ... it’s not because you’re lazy, unmotivated, or lacking discipline. In midlife, your body and nervous system are often choosing safety over strategy.
In this episode of 50 Something with Cam Allen, we talk about:
Why resistance, low energy, or procrastination might actually be nervous system dysregulation
How the freeze response shows up in midlife (and why it’s not a personal flaw)
Simple grounding practices to help you get back into your body and feel more like yourself
Why you need more regulation (not more motivation) to follow through on what matters
Midlife isn’t about pushing harder. It’s about listening to your body’s wisdom. Whether you’re navigating menopause, burnout, or just feeling “off,” this episode gives you practical tools to reconnect, reset, and move forward with ease.

Option one, you can't follow through, so there must be something wrong with you. Option two, it's actually some kind of dysregulation. Hey there, welcome back to 50something. I'm Cam Allen and if you are beating yourself up for not doing the thing, I just want you to pause for a second because it's not your willpower and it's not your lack of motivation. I believe it's your body actually saying, whoa, this isn't for me. See, your body always picks safety over your strategy. And if you are like finding resistance and low energy and like you can't get up and do the thing, I believe your body's communicating. This isn't for you. You see, freeze is a response. It's not a defect. It's your body, your nervous system, your unconscious mind saying, I don't think this is for you right now. So rather than beating yourself up and saying that you don't have willpower or motivation, it's actually something else. I believe discipline is overused. Habits just keep you stuck and not like in your body. Really, what would be more helpful is to get grounded and know yourself better. So take off your shoes, go take a walk in your backyard, go garden and touch plants with your hands. Do something to get in touch with your body. Because your body is this huge barometer of truth. It's always communicating. Yet we in society have been told that trust the science, follow the rules, do the thing, be a good girl. When in reality we've gaslit ourselves all these years because our body was telling us something different. So hear this. You don't need more motivation, you actually need more regulation. Get in touch with your body and get grounded because I invite you to try this idea on. Your lack of follow through is actually your body saying, this doesn't feel safe. So you're really not stuck, you're just in protection mode. Go take off your shoes, go walk in your yard and then check in with your body. Do you feel more grounded? Do you feel more like yourself? Let me know in the comments if getting in touch with Mother Earth actually helps regulate your system better. I believe you need less noise in your life and more knowing. I'll see you next time.
